Description
This head turner is a 1962 (Nash) Metropolitan Convertible. It was professionally restored/resto-modded in ~2010, at which time a rebuilt Datsun (Nissan) A14 engine and automatic transmission (from a ~1975 Datsun B210) were installed. This upgrade improved horsepower (78 vs. 52), reliability (Japanese Datsun/Nissan vs. British Austin), and gearchanges (automatic transmission instead of manual column shift and clutch). At the time of the restoration, the exterior was completely restored and given a show quality modern paint job and all new chrome trim and gaskets. The top, frame, and weatherstripping were also replaced, and the entire interior was upgraded with custom seats and carpets. The car was completely rewired, and the tube-style AM radio was rebuilt. Everything under the hood was replaced or rebuilt .As you can see from the pics (links at end to more pics and videos), the upgrades were done to a very high standard; they preserve the original look, but elevate the car to a much higher level of luxury. Unless you are familiar with these cars, the upgrades look stock; for example the original column shift mechanism was retained, and now controls the auto transmission via a custom cable linkage. According to the previous owner, he already owned the car and had for many years prior to the restoration; and he spent in excess of ,000 on just the restoration and upgrade. Since the restoration, the car has been garage kept, well maintained, and only driven occasionally on nice days.
After I purchased the car in late 2015, I replaced all 4 tires, overhauled the steering (including a rebuilt steering box), installed new shocks, a pertronix electronic ignition, and a new mechanical fuel pump. I also replaced the custom LeCarra steering wheel (included in sale) with a restored original wheel. The larger steering wheel and ~stock width tires reduced steering effort for my wife (the primary driver). I also installed a complete set of custom gauges to monitor the engine and charging system (now an alternator instead of generator).
This car will come with several manuals for the Datsun and for the Met, and a significant amount of supplemental literature (see pics). It will also come with a restored original jack with cover, the tonneau cover and bag in the pics, and a custom all weather car cover. Everything works as it should, and the car starts and drives reliably.
I am not a good photographer or videographer, but I did take a ton or pictures and several videos that will hopefully convey the condition and quality of this car. Feel free to ask questions. I will gladly demonstrate the car for local buyers, and will work with the shipper as necessary.
