    Description

An extremely rare oversize A&M Records UK promotional poster advertising the never-issued Sex Pistols’ single ‘God Save the Queen.’
This was produced in early 1977 for flyposting, during the short time the Pistols were signed to A&M, coincident with Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee.  The poster ostensibly pays tribute to the Queen, with the Pistols name in graffiti/spray paint type, defacing and co-opting the Royal tribute.  These were never used, and destroyed when the Pistols were dropped from the label.
The handful of surviving examples, including this one, trace back to Stan Lee, guitarist of The Dickies, who A&M signed as their ‘replacement’ punk band after dropping the Pistols.  In the late 70s Lee saw some of these posters at A&M’s UK headquarters, and was given a few before the rest were trashed.
This example is in near mint condition, having long ago been professionally mounted to cardboard and framed.  There are a few barely noticeable bubbles in the white area, top right, where the poster didn’t perfectly adhere to the backing, but the graphics are bold, unfaded and impressive.
The fourth copy we’ve seen since 1977, and the one in the best condition.  Metal frame and plexiglass in excellent condition.
    40 ¾” x 31 ½”
